Alderney Gate is a multi-use public space on the Dartmouth Waterfront that houses a library, municipal offices, a market, and a transit hub. With these programs distributed across a network of interconnected buildings, intuitive navigation was essential. As lead designer on the project, Anna began with an in-depth site survey to inform the location plan and guide the overall wayfinding strategy.

The signage system was designed to complement the Halifax Regional Municipality’s brand identity without relying too heavily on it, integrating subtly into the built environment while maintaining clarity and functionality. Anna contributed to the design intent document, which ensured a cohesive visual language was used across all sign types, including detailed fabrication drawings. They worked closely with fabricators to oversee production and manage on-site installation.

This project deepened Anna’s expertise in environmental graphic design, wayfinding for complex public environments, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to bring design into the built world.
